José de Armas (born March 25, 1981 in Florida ) is a retired Venezuelan tennis player .

Career

José de Armas only celebrated a title win on the second-rate Challenger Tour . He won a title in doubles when he and his compatriot Jimy Szymanski won the final in San Luis Potosí in 2000 . In Grand Slam tournaments , he was never able to qualify for the main round. He reached his highest single place in the world rankings on May 19, 2003 with position 236. In doubles he reached rank 231 in August 2000. So he could not confirm his successes in the juniors. In 1997 and 1998 he won the junior doubles competitions at the French Open . In 1997 he won alongside Luis Horna , and Fernando González was his partner the following year .

At the Pan American Games in 2003 in Santo Domingo , he won the bronze medal in singles. In the semifinals he lost 4: 6, 2: 6 against Fernando Meligeni .

In 2000 he took part in the Summer Olympics in Sydney , where he competed in doubles . Together with Jimy Szymanski he defeated the Croatians Mario Ančić and Goran Ivanišević in straight sets in the opening round . In the round of 16, however, they were defeated by the later gold medalists Sébastien Lareau and Daniel Nestor from Canada in straight sets.

José de Armas played a total of 26 games for the Venezuelan Davis Cup team between 1997 and 2010 . While his individual record is positive with 19:17 wins, he was able to make his double record balanced with 12:12 wins.
