Jimy Szymanski Ottaviano (born September 15, 1975 in Caracas ) is a former Venezuelan tennis player .

Career

Jimy Szymanski celebrated successes mainly on the second-rate Challenger Tour . In singles and doubles he won two titles in his career. In Grand Slam tournaments , he only reached the main round of the US Open in 1996 and 1997 , but did not get beyond these two times. He reached his highest single place in the world rankings on November 15, 1999 with position 160. In doubles he reached rank 187 in June 2000.

At the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata in 1995 , he won the bronze medal in singles and silver in doubles.

In 1996 and 2000 he took part in the Summer Olympics in Atlanta and Sydney . At the 1996 Games , he only appeared in singles . In the opening round he was defeated by Wayne Black from Zimbabwe in three sets. At the games in 2000 he only took part in the doubles competition. Together with José de Armas he defeated the Croatians Mario Ančić and Goran Ivanišević in two sets in the opening round . In the round of 16, however, they were defeated by the later gold medalists Sébastien Lareau and Daniel Nestor from Canada in straight sets.

Jimy Szymanski played a total of 28 games for the Venezuelan Davis Cup team between 1992 and 2006 . While his single record is negative with 19:23 wins, he was able to make his double record positive with 11:10 wins. With 28 matches he is the record player in his country.
