José de Jesús Madera Uribe

José de Jesús Madera Uribe MSpS (born November 27, 1927 in San Francisco ; † January 21, 2017 ) was an American clergyman and auxiliary bishop in the US military ordinariate .

Life

José de Jesús Madera Uribe joined the religious community of Missionaries of the Holy Spirit and studied philosophy and theology at the religious seminary in Coyoacan, Mexico. He was ordained a priest on July 6, 1952 .

Pope John Paul II named him Coadjutor Bishop of Fresno on December 18, 1979 . The Bishop of Fresno, Hugh Aloysius Donohoe , ordained him bishop on March 4 of the next year ; Co-consecrators were Roger Mahony , Archbishop of Stockton , and Juan Alfredo Arzube , auxiliary bishop in Los Angeles .

After Hugh Aloysius Donohoe's retirement, he succeeded him on July 1, 1980 as Bishop of Fresno. On May 28, 1991, he was appointed auxiliary bishop in the US military ordinariate and titular bishop of Hortanum .

On September 15, 2004, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
