Josef Albrecht (paleontologist)

Josef Albrecht (born July 26, 1888 in Vienna ; † March 1, 1974 ibid) was an Austrian teacher and paleontologist.

Life

Josef Albrecht attended high school in Vienna-Hietzing and then the high school graduate course at the teachers' academy. When he obtained his teaching qualification, he first taught at an elementary school in Vienna-Meidling , then at a community school .

In 1914 he had to enter. As a result of a war injury, he lost his right eyesight. After the First World War , he studied paleontology, geology and geography at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in 1924. phil. received his doctorate . His dissertation "Paleontological and stratigraphic results of the research trip to Western Serbia 1918" concerned the collection of a trip by Otto Ampferer and Wilhelm Hammer on behalf of the Academy of Sciences .

Due to his knowledge as a teacher, he was appointed to the textbook examination commission and worked from 1933 to 1934 as a district school inspector. In the last two years of the war, 1944 and 1945, Albrecht had to enter despite being disabled, but was taken prisoner by the Americans. In 1945, after his release, he became director of the photo agency for Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. In 1954 he retired.

His work concerned numerous series of photographs and educational films for schools and adult education centers, which showed nature, but also cultural monuments and art treasures. From 1922 he was a member of the Zoological-Botanical Society and the Geological Society .
