Josef Böck (physician)

Josef Böck (born October 13, 1901 in St. Pölten , † June 5, 1985 in Vienna ) was an Austrian ophthalmologist.

Life

Josef Böck attended elementary school and high school in his hometown of St. Pölten. After graduating from high school , he studied medicine at the University of Vienna . In 1926 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD. After a year of training at the anatomical-pathological institute, he joined Josef Meller in 1927 . He became his assistant in 1930 and completed his habilitation in 1939. In 1944 he was initially provisionally appointed to the eye clinic of the Medical University of Graz , in 1947 he followed Arnold Pillat permanently , and in 1950 he was given a chair . In 1955 he was finally appointed to the II. Vienna Eye Clinic and stayed there until his retirement in 1972. In the course of his professional activity he wrote over 140 specialist articles in addition to ophthalmological books. For decades he was one of the editors of the Wiener clinical Wochenschrift . He was buried at the Döblinger Friedhof .
