Josef Batliner

Josef Batliner (born March 21, 1872 in Mauren , Liechtenstein ; † December 3, 1956 in Feldkirch ) was an Austrian politician and doctor. From 1934 to 1938 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

After attending primary school in Mauren and the Maria Hilf Schwyz college, Batliner graduated from high school in Schwyz and Brixen and the Feldkirch state high school . In 1892 he passed his Matura in Brixen and then studied medicine for two semesters at the University of Innsbruck . He continued his studies at the Universities of Vienna and Graz and received his doctorate on December 19, 1898 as a doctor of general medicine. He then completed his hospital training at a clinic for women and internal medicine in Vienna, then moved to the Oberhollabrunn hospital. He founded his own medical practice in Feldkirch in 1902 and subsequently worked as a city doctor in Feldkirch from 1906 to 1938. From 1910 to 1938 he was also a railway doctor; During the First World War he was employed as a troop doctor and subsequently as chief physician at the military hospital in Feldkirch. Batliner was also president of the Liechtenstein State Court and ambulance doctor of the Red Cross.

Politics and functions

Before the First World War he belonged to the city council of Feldkirch and in 1934 he was appointed to the state parliament by the governor of Vorarlberg as a representative of the liberal professions. Batliner was a member of the state parliament from November 14, 1934 until the annexation of Austria on March 12, 1938. Batliner was also a board member of the Vorarlberg Medical Association.

Private

Josef Batliner was born as the son of the Mauren farmer and innkeeper Bartholomäus Batliner (1842-1912) and his wife Ursula Meier (1837-1900), who also came from Mauren. He married Anna Weislein (1882–1918), born in Oberhollabrunn on September 23, 1902 in Hollabrunn , and had one daughter each in 1903 and 1905, respectively. Batliner had been a member of the Catholic student associations AV Austria Innsbruck and KÖHV Carolina Graz since his studies .
