Josef Brunner (officer)
Josef Brunner (born October 30, 1889 in Stadl-Paura ; † January 15, 1967 in Lambach ) was an Austrian officer. In the German air force he rose to lieutenant general during the Second World War .
Life
Brunner served in the Austrian air force during the First World War and remained in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Austria after the end of the war . There he was promoted to major on September 27, 1927 and to lieutenant colonel in 1937 . Since May 2, 1934, he has been in charge of the Army's 1st Air Regiment. After the " Anschluss of Austria " to the National Socialist German Reich , he was taken over into the Air Force of the Wehrmacht while retaining his rank. There he served first in Kampfgeschwader 157 , before taking over the I. Group of Kampfgeschwader 254 as group commander on October 1, 1938 . But as early as November 1, 1938, he switched to the I. Group of Kampfgeschwader 155 as commander, which was renamed Kampfgeschwader 55 on May 1, 1939 . There he was promoted to colonel on April 1, 1939 . On July 1, 1939, he led reconnaissance group 14 and two months later, reconnaissance group 11. On January 1, 1940, he took over the post of commander of the Luftwaffe Army High Command 18 (Koluft 18) and took part in the western campaign in this position . On February 17, 1941, Army Group C changed to Army Group C as Koluft . This was used as Army Group North in the north of the Eastern Front after the attack on the Soviet Union . Here Brunner was promoted to major general on September 1, 1941 . On December 15, 1941, he went to Army Group South as a Koluft before he already filled the same position with Commander- in -Chief West in France in February 1942 . He stayed there until February 24, 1943 and then took over as commander of Luftkriegsschule 1 in Dresden-Klotzsche in connection with taking over the air base command at the air base there . After he was listed as Lieutenant General from October 1, 1943 , Brunner took over the post of higher commander of the air warfare and officer schools on April 1, 1944 . On February 22, 1945 he was transferred to the Führerreserve without being used , where he saw the end of the war.
