Josef Dahinden
(Franz) Josef Dahinden (born June 7, 1898 in Rigi Kaltbad , Weggis ; † December 22, 1993 in Zurich - Witikon ) was a Swiss ski instructor , writer and filmmaker . He is considered a “pioneer and rebel” in the history of ski tourism and ski instruction in Switzerland.
Life
Josef Dahinden came from the marriage of the hotelier Josef (1863–1931) and Rosa Dahinden-Pfyl, known as "Snow Rose". This offered ski courses at the family-owned Hotel Bellevue in Rigi Kaltbad.
Josef Dahinden trained himself to be a ski instructor and was the founder of the first professional ski schools in Rigi , St. Moritz , Arosa , Flims and Jungfraujoch . With his torso-twisting mambo , he has further developed the Arlberg weaving , so that a faster frequency can be achieved with the mambo style than with the leg play. He is considered the founder of the technique of rhythmic skiing (so-called counter-screw).
He has written numerous books on a modern ski style and also made educational and documentary films in the style of Arnold Fanck . He received several awards for his film work. He also took over camera work, such as in 1934 for the German feature film Wilhelm Tell. The freedom drama of a people .
Josef Dahinden married Eugenie geb. Kraus from Berlin; The children Verena, Justus, Jörg (died as a child) and Vinzenz are from the marriage. His son, the architect Justus Dahinden , designed the tent house on the Rigi for him as his first commission in 1955 .
