Josef Franz Dex

Josef Franz Dex (born December 28, 1899 in Linz , † July 31, 1945 in New York City ) was an Austrian architect , interior designer , designer and painter .

Life

Dex attended the arts and crafts school in Linz. Initially, in the 1920s he attended the painting school of Matthias May , after which he studied from 1923 to 1926 Architecture at Peter Behrens at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . In 1926 he became a member of the artists' association MAERZ and in 1931 of the Central Association of Architects in Austria .

After returning from his stay in Rome, he initially worked for Mauriz Balzarek and Julius Schulte , among others, and then became self-employed as an interior and furniture designer. The only known building designed and realized by him is the twin house of the Werkbundsiedlung in Vienna , Jagdschlossgasse 76 and 78 (1932).

In 1940/41 he emigrated to New York, where he ran the furniture store Josef Dex, Interior Designer , until 1945 .
