Josef Giesen

Josef Karl Giesen (born February 6, 1900 in Düsseldorf , † June 17, 1979 in Lohne ) was a German artist and art historian.

Giesen was the son of the senior director of studies Karl Giesen (Siegburg, Cologne) and studied in Bonn. He received his doctorate in art history there in 1929 . First he was a professor at the Pedagogical Academy in Bonn, then from 1936 to 1939 at the University for Teacher Training Trier and from 1941 at the Teacher Training Institute Trier, most recently as komm. Ladder. He served in the Volkssturm and became a French prisoner of war in 1945/46 . He then lived in Bad Godesberg as a freelance painter and graphic artist until he was appointed to the Vechta University of Education as a lecturer in April 1948 . At times he was in charge of this or as a deputy. From 1957 to 1968 he was professor for art and art education in Vechta. In 1933 he signed the confession of professors at German universities and colleges about Adolf Hitler . In addition to his apprenticeship, he also worked as a painter and exhibited in the Oldenburger Münsterland . He was one of the regular authors of the magazine Die Kunst und das Schöne Heim .
