Josef Herzog (officer)

Josef Herzog (born August 17, 1928 in Groß Reichenbach ; † June 10, 2016 ) was an officer in the Austrian Armed Forces , most recently in the rank of brigadier .

Life

Josef Herzog was born in Groß Reichenbach in Lower Austria in 1928 . After training as a commercial clerk, he graduated from the police school in Vienna and was a member of the Vienna Security Guard from 1947 to 1956.

After taking the civil service promotion test, he attended the military academy in Linz-Ebelsberg from 1956 to 1957 and was retired from the infantry combat school on January 1, 1958 as a lieutenant in the Austrian Armed Forces . This was followed by several official stays in the United States Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School and close combat training with the hunting command and judo training with the armed forces.

From July 1, 1982 to June 30, 1990 he was in command of the Landwehr Trunk Regiment 21 Hoch- und Deutschmeister. In 1990 he retired as a brigadier.

Since 1948 he was a member of the Austrian national judo team, long-time president of the Judo State Association Vienna and member of the State Sports Committee of Vienna. He also built a judo school. From 1975 to 1991 he was President of the Judo Sports Commission at the Conseil International du Sport Militaire and from 1989 to 1991 President of the Austrian Judo Association . He was a holder of the 8th Dan , the highest degree in Austria.
