Josef Hillerbrand

Josef Hillerbrand (born August 2, 1892 in Bad Tölz , † November 26, 1981 in Munich ) was a German interior designer , textile designer and university professor .

Life

After an apprenticeship as a painter, Hillerbrand attended the Munich School of Applied Arts . From 1922 he worked for Deutsche Werkstätten AG , first in Dresden- Hellerau , then in Munich. In 1922 Hillerbrand was appointed professor at the School of Applied Arts by Richard Riemerschmid , and from 1937 he also taught as a professor at the Academy of Applied Arts in Munich. From 1923 to 1945 he also worked for the Deutsche Werkstätten-Textilgesellschaft mbH (DEWE-TEX) . After the war he was a professor for textile design and decorative painting as well as for interior design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . From 1950 he also designed for the textile company DeWeTex in Wolfratshausen . In 1960 Hillerbrand retired.

Hillerbrand is an important representative of Art Deco in Germany , especially in his creative work on furniture, fabrics and porcelain .

  • 1929–1930: Interior design and architecture of the foyer of Jodquellen AG in Bad Tölz
  • 1952–1953: Conversion of the Jodquellenhof spa hotel in Bad Tölz
  • 1955: Exhibition of German decorative fabrics and wallpapers in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London
  • 1969–1970: Alpamare in Bad Tölz
