Josef Janko (singer)
Josef Janko (born March 19, 1897 in Munich , † November 1, 1984 in Graz ) was a German opera singer ( tenor ).
Life
Janko first took up the profession of furrier . After his discovery, Felix von Kraus trained Janko's voice. From 1926 to 1935 he sang mostly small and tenor buffo parts at the Munich State Opera . This was followed by engagements at the Bielefeld City Theater and the Cologne Opera . From 1940 he was the first tenor at the Graz City Theater . At the Bayreuth Festival in 1951 and 1952 he sang “Balthasar Zorn” and in 1956 “Augustin Moser” in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and in 1953 one of the “Nobles” in Lohengrin . He also interpreted solo parts in oratorios and sacred musical works .
