Josef Kary

Josef Kary (born August 6, 1913 in Durmersheim ; † February 26, 2012 in Rötenbach ) was a German Catholic clergyman.

Live and act

Josef Kary grew up in Durmersheim, his father died in the First World War . He studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Freiburg and Tübingen . Archbishop Conrad Gröber ordained him as a priest on March 27, 1938 in Freiburg. He worked as a vicar in Waldkirch , Oberbiederbach , Hornberg , Renchen and St. Georgen . During the Second World War he did military service with the mountain troops and was in captivity. After his return he became vicar in Bühl and Friedenweiler , and later a pastor in Langenrain . In 1957 he became pastor of the parish of St. Leodegar in Rötenbach. In 1991 he retired.

Since 1926 he was a member of the German Association for Bird Protection . As a hobby ornithologist , he gave over 3,000 slide shows. He kept many birds and ran a beekeeping in his 2,000 square meter garden.

Josef Kary, along with six other survivors, was rescued from a 220-man company on the Caucasus campaign . His brother Karl, who had studied theology in Prague and Innsbruck and then became a chaplain in Füssen, died in the campaign. Since Karl belonged to the Order of Missionaries of the Precious Blood , which had its seat in Feldkirch in Vorarlberg, Josef had a Marienkapelle built in Vorarlberg in 1954 as thanks for his return home .
