Josef Loth

Josef Loth (born March 7, 1896 in Rieneck as Joseph Waßmuth; † August 14, 1970 in Friedberg , Hessen ) was a Hessian politician ( KPD Hessen ) and member of the state parliament of the People's State of Hesse in the Weimar Republic .

Family and work

Josef Loth was the son of the single worker Wilhelmine Waßmuth. In 1902 she married the day laborer Adam Loth. He was married to Frieda Louise Klara nee Lotzin. The trained metal worker started working as a railroad worker in May 1914 and was a train conductor from June 1920. Dismissed in 1924, he was given temporary retirement in 1927.

Loth was a functionary of the KPD in Friedberg, was a member of the city council from 1928 to 1930 and was a member of the state parliament in the 5th electoral period in 1931/32. Since he ran for the KPD in the state elections after the Nazis came to power , he was arrested on March 10, 1933 in Friedberg. On April 5, 1933, the special court at the Darmstadt Higher Regional Court sentenced him to one year in prison. He was released in December 1933, arrested again in January 1934, and was held in " protective custody " for several months . After his release he met with Wilhelm Beuttel, who lived underground . Loth was arrested again on February 26, 1943 and sentenced to six years in prison on March 29, 1944 by the 2nd Senate of the People's Court . Until May 1944 he was first in the Mainz penal institution, then in Butzbach penitentiary until the liberation on April 27, 1945 .

After the war, Loth returned to work for the railroad and was employed at Friedberg station for many years. He rejoined the KPD and was a member of the DKP from 1969 .
