Josef Nawrocki (born February 10, 1880 in Adelnau , † April 27, 1941 in Sonnenburg ) was a German communist and resistance fighter against the Nazi regime .

Life

Nawrocki had been a member of the SPD since 1898 . During the First World War he became a member of the USPD , whose left wing united with the KPD in December 1920 . From 1921 to 1923 he was a city councilor for the KPD in Berlin . In 1923 he was elected to the KPD district leadership Berlin-Brandenburg and the district council assembly in Köpenick .

In 1926 he was delegated to the headquarters of the Communist International in Moscow , where he worked for the executive committee in the field of the agricultural workers 'and peasants' movement. In 1928 he returned to Germany and became a member of the KPD district leadership in East Prussia . He later took on functions in the agitprop department of the KPD in Berlin, which is responsible for the press . After the establishment of the Nazi dictatorship and the conversion of the KPD structures to work in the underground , he headed the illegal party organizations in the northern districts of Berlin. In June 1936, Nawrocki was from the Gestapo arrested and an eight-year prison sentence convicted he held until his death as a result of prison conditions in the penitentiary Sonnenburg spent.
