Josef Winkelirer

Josef Winkelirer , also Joseph Winkelirer , with the surname Winkler since 1842 (* 1800 in Düsseldorf ; date of death unknown), was a German portrait and landscape painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Winkelirer studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Peter Cornelius and Johann Wilhelm Schirmer and at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts . In 1832 and 1844 he sent the Berlin Academy exhibitions. Initially inclined to history painting, he turned to landscape painting from around 1830. He also painted portraits. Winkelirer was a friend of the judge Anton Fahne . His wife Julie, née Stommel, he taught the art of painting. Besides, little is known about his life.
