Josef Zösmair (1845–1928)

Josef Zösmair (born November 11, 1845 in Bruneck in Pustertal , † June 6, 1928 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian teacher, name researcher and historian.

Live and act

Josef Zösmair came from a farming family. After attending the grammar school in Brixen , he studied in Innsbruck , where he passed the teaching examination for history and geography in 1871. From 1872 to 1888 he taught at the middle school in Feldkirch , where he was appointed professor in 1874. At the same time, he wrote a large number of articles on Vorarlberg onomatology and history from early history to modern times, for which the city of Feldkirch made him an honorary citizen and the Vorarlberg State Museum Association made him an honorary member. From 1888 to 1903 and again during the First World War, he taught at the Innsbruck grammar school. For a time, Zösmair ran the business in Feldkirch for the Association for the History of Lake Constance and its surroundings ; on the occasion of his 80th birthday he was granted honorary membership. His estate is kept in the Vorarlberg State Archives in Bregenz.

Zösmair was married and had a son who died in the First World War.
