Franz Häfele

Franz Josef Häfele (born February 23, 1889 in Hohenems , Vorarlberg ; † April 19, 1947 there ) was a Vorarlberg historian and local researcher .

Life

Franz Josef Häfele was born in Hohenems and attended the state high school in Feldkirch from 1905 to 1913 . From 1913 to 1917 he studied history , geography and German philology at the University of Innsbruck , although his studies were interrupted in 1915 due to the war when he was drafted into the fortress artillery in Trento . In 1917 , Häfele received his doctorate on the subject of "Contributions to the history of Count Jakob Hannibal von Hohenems".

After graduating, he received a position as a supplement (assistant teacher) at the State Real High School in Dux (today Duchcov ), which he gave up on April 1, 1919. In 1920 he was employed as a statistician at the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees in Vorarlberg. Between 1922 and 1929 he worked as a freelancer. Between 1929 and 1938 he was temporarily head of the public libraries in the cities of Feldkirch, Dornbirn and Bregenz . In 1945 his collection of as yet unpublished sagas was destroyed along with his apartment during the war .
