Joseph Bernardi

Joseph Bernardi (* 1826 in Düsseldorf ; † March 9, 1907 ibid) was a German landscape painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Bernardi was born in the house at Hohe Strasse 9 in Düsseldorf- Carlstadt . He studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . From 1843 to 1846, Bernardi was a student in Johann Wilhelm Schirmer's landscape class . He then stayed in Munich , where he was listed as a member of the local art association in 1850 . He later returned to Düsseldorf. With motifs from Switzerland, Upper Bavaria, the Taunus and the Rhine Province, he was represented at exhibitions in Bremen, Düsseldorf, Hanover, Magdeburg and Munich. In 1890 he lived in Duisburger Strasse 33 in Düsseldorf- Pempelfort .

Bernardi was best known for its alpine landscapes. He mastered the entire range of representation methods and motifs common at the time. His oeuvre shows a preference for dramatic weather events and lighting conditions as well as sensational mountain ranges and roaring white water.
