Joseph Carl Rosenbaum (born July 5, 1770 in Vienna ; † December 26, 1829 there ) was an Austrian civil servant and employee of Prince Nikolaus II Esterházy .

Life

Rosenbaum initially worked in Eisenstadt , from 1790 in the court bookkeeping of the princely Esterházy estates, later as the secretary of Count Karl Esterházy . In 1797, however, he had to leave the Esterházy service because Prince Rosenbaum disapproved of the relationship with the court opera singer Therese Gassmann , the daughter of the composer and conductor Florian Gassmann .

That is why he returned to Vienna in 1797 and acquired the house conscription number 337 (1, Ledererhof 9) in the city, and in 1816 also a summer residence with a garden ( Schaumburgergrund ; Rosenbaumgarten).

Joseph Carl Rosenbaum and Therese Gassmann married on June 11, 1800.

In 1809 Rosenbaum was the main participant in the robbery of Joseph Haydn's skull .

Diaries

Rosenbaum's detailed diaries, which he kept from 1797 to 1829 and in which he recorded numerous cultural events, including those of Joseph Haydn and Ludwig van Beethoven, are of lasting value . Today they are in the Austrian National Library .
