Joseph Du Hamel , also du Hamel , of Dühamel , Duhamel ( Russian Осип Осипович Дюгамель ; born August 2, jul. / 13. August  1768 greg. In Warsaw , † December 8 . Jul / 20th December  1840 greg. In St. Petersburg ) was a Russian senator and governor of Livonia .

Life

Origin and family

Joseph came from an originally French noble family whose Baltic branch was registered in the Livonian Knighthood and the Courland Knighthood . His parents were the readers of the Polish King Stanislaus August , Joseph Du Hamel and Anna Maria Juliana, née Miklasiewicz.

He married Henriette Christina, née von Heyking (1774–1862), divorced Heinrich Baron von Krorff (1765–1823).

The marriage resulted in several children, including:

  • Alexander (1801–1880), Russian envoy to Persia, infantry, and governor general of Western Siberia
  • Sergei (1802–1865), Russian major general
  • Karl Andreas (1808-1858), Russian Real Privy Councilor
  • Michael (1812-1896), Russian admiral

Career

Du Hamel served in the Russian army from 1776 , first in the guard , then in the line infantry . He was in the field in Finland in 1788 and took part in the Russo-Polish War in 1792 . He was captured during the Kościuszko uprising .

It was not until 1797 that he took up an activity in the Russian civil service and was councilor and councilor at the judicial college in St. Petersburg. From 1799 to 1806 he was a councilor in Mitau , from 1806 to 1811 lieutenant governor and finally from 1811 to 1827 governor of Livonia. In 1812 he became the Real Council of State and in 1819, 1821 and 1823 he was the representative of the Governor General Marquis Paulucci . Furthermore, Du Hamel was President of the Commission for the Introduction of Peasant Legislation and since 1827 Senator, and since 1828 also honorary guardian in the Guardianship Council for the institutions of Empress Maria . In 1801 he received the Courland indigenous .
