Joseph Franz Kaiser
Joseph Franz Kaiser (born March 11, 1786 in Graz ; † September 19, 1859 ibid) was an Austrian bookbinder , lithographer , publisher and officer .
Life
Joseph Franz was born as the first son of the Graz citizen and bookbinder Johann Michael Kaiser and his wife Johanna, née Bruggmayer. After school, Joseph Franz followed his father professionally and also learned the bookbinding trade. Afterwards he certainly went on the usual journeyman's journey, gained professional experience and came into contact with the first lithographic products.
In 1806 he was mentioned as a member of the civil cavalry of the Graz Citizens' Militia and when the Landwehr developed in 1808 , he was promoted to the leadership group as a capable soldier. On March 29, 1809 he was promoted to ensign . As a member of the 2nd Grazer Landwehr Battalion and commander of the 6th Company , Kaiser took part in the battle of Raab on June 14, 1809 under the command of Archduke Johann of Austria .
On March 29, 1810, Kaiser was able to acquire the bookbinding rights prescribed for the city of Graz and then founded his own bookbinding business not far from Murtore. In view of his achievements in the cavalry of the Graz citizen corps and as an ambitious craftsman, he was accepted into the Graz citizenship on July 12, 1814. On October 27th of the same year he married the 22-year-old Maria Anna Ehmeyer in Graz's Andrä Church. This marriage resulted in six children, including the two well-known landscape painters and lithographers Alexander and Eduard Kaiser .
As a businessman, Kaiser was very imaginative. Soon he tried to increase his income and expand his business by selling stationery, paper and various printing works. As early as 1814, he was therefore accused of having exceeded his trading rights by publishing calendars and offering maps.
