Joseph Petrasch

Joseph Leopold Freiherr von Petrasch (born October 19, 1714 in Brod an der Save , Slavonia ; † May 15, 1772 in Neuschloß , Moravia , Czech : Josef Petráš ) was a writer and philologist and founder of the Olomouc Societas incognitorum , the first learned society in Meaning of the Enlightenment in the Habsburg countries.

Joseph was a son of General Maximilian von Petrasch. In his military service he was adjutant to Prince Eugene of Savoy . On March 27, 1750, Petrasch bought the Neuschloß estate for 85,600 guilders. After leaving Olomouc in 1758 , he moved to Neuschloss and brought the rule to a cultural boom. In the castle there were performances of self-written plays. In addition, Petrasch created an extensive library with valuable first prints and foreign works.

Petrasch left four daughters. His eldest daughter Antonia Countess von Pütring died in 1781. Her sisters Karolina von Lipowsky, Maria Anna von Petrasch and Josepha von Hochberg sold the new castle in 1789 for 100,000 guilders to Johann Nepomuk Wengerský von Ungarschitz.
