Joseph Friedrich Grammont
Joseph Friedrich Grammont (born September 4, 1759 in Montbéliard ; † December 19, 1819 ) was a French-Württemberg and Swiss pedagogue and one of Friedrich Schiller's early friends .
Life
Joseph Friedrich Grammont came from a Huguenot family from Mömpelgard, which was then part of Württemberg . In 1771 he entered the Hohe Carlsschule in Stuttgart and studied first law and then medicine. After the death of his father in Mömpelgard he went to the French-speaking Switzerland , where he worked as a teacher and private schools in Le Locle and La Chaux-de-Fonds built. He then became a private tutor in the family of Effinger at Wildegg Castle and Castle Buren . He was in lively correspondence with Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi , with whom he has had a deep friendship since his time at Wildegg Castle. After his time in Bern he went to Saint Petersburg to work as a tutor for the sons of Prince Dolgoruki . He returned wealthy to Alsace, where he lived for a few years until he returned to Stuttgart and was appointed governor of the royal pages in 1806. From 1807 he was professor of French language and finally rector at the Royal High School in Stuttgart.
Grammont was a fellow student of Friedrich Schiller , who dedicated medical writings to him.
