The Wehrhahn Verlag is an academic publisher based in Hannover . It was founded in 1996 by Matthias Wehrhahn. Since 2001, mainly books on culture and the humanities have been published.

Publishing program

From the beginning, little-known texts from the 17th to 19th centuries were published, some of which are available in bookshops for the first time in a long time. Scientific works from the fields of cultural and literary studies , English and Romance studies , social and political science , theater and music studies as well as cultural history and the history of science and philosophy appear in various book series . Two to three literary and essayistic books are published every year. In 2007 a well-known author of literary titles could be won with Friedhelm Kändler . Etchings by the artist Stephan Klenner-Otto have also been published since 2009 . These so-called "heads" show portraits of famous poets.

Wehrhahn Verlag works internationally with authors, scientists, institutions and universities from Bulgaria, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Canada, Norway, Austria, Poland, Switzerland and the USA. The publication languages ​​are German, English and French.

Awards

  • In 2006 the Wehrhahn Verlag was awarded the Lower Saxony Publishing Prize. This prize is awarded every two years by the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture.
  • In 2009 the publisher received the Kurt Wolff Prize for "[...] the consistency [...] with which it has been presenting the German Enlightenment in its European context for a good decade and at the same time bridging the gap between cultural history of the 18th and 19th centuries to current essay writing ”, so the jury's reasoning.
