Joseph Ignaz Schmiderer , also Schmiederer (born May 22, 1755 in Freiburg i. Breisgau ; † February 15, 1830 ibid) was a German doctor and veterinarian .
Life
Schmiderer was the son of a surgeon based in Freiburg and an excellent student. In the university of his hometown, which at that time belonged to the front of Austria , he studied philosophy, medicine and obstetrics under his teacher Mederer .
In 1781 he was appointed to the university by Emperor Joseph II of Austria as a professor for the newly founded subject "Animal Medicines Art" . After additional training at the Kk Horse Cure and Operations School in Vienna, he took up his chair in Freiburg in 1783. Corresponding to his dual training, he also exercised an important teaching position in human medicine. Although he was dean of the medical school eleven times, his subject was mocked as the "pulpit".
Especially in the war years at the turn of the century, he ran the military hospital in Freiburg, which earned him numerous honors, including from the hostile French generals. He was a member of the Freiburg Freemason Lodge Zur noble Aussicht .
