Joseph Johann Maria Weissegger von Weißeneck (also Weissenegg ; * July 12, 1755 in Riegersburg (Styria) near Graz ; † March 14, 1817 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was an Austrian writer , historian , lawyer , philosopher and translator in the late phase of the Enlightenment and the Napoleonic period .

Weissegger was professor of world history at the University of Freiburg from 1784 and its rector from 1797. On October 9, 1804, he was ennobled with the title "von Weißeneck". In 1784 he became a member of the Freiburg Freemason Lodge Zur noble Aussicht .

Philipp Jakob Siebenpfeiffer (1789–1845), lawyer, political journalist and initiator of the Hambach Festival , was his son-in-law.

Works

  • Historical paintings or biographical descriptions of all the rulers and princes of the most illustrious ore house of Habsburg Oestreich, from Rudolph I to Maria Theresia (5 volumes, 1800–03).
