Joseph Minjon

Peter Joseph Minjon (* 1816 in Düsseldorf ; † 1898 there ) was a German vedute and genre painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Minjon attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1832 to 1839 . There were Karl Friedrich Schaffer (1832/1833), Karl Ferdinand Sohn (1832/1833) and Theodor Hildebrandt (1835-1837, 1839) his teachers. In the middle of the 19th century he had acquired the reputation of an “architectural painter” by specializing in “vedutas of smaller cities on the Rhine and Moselle”. Minjon lived in Düsseldorf , where he belonged to the artists' association Malkasten and was a teacher of the flower painter Wilhelm Drinhausen (1821–1875). In 1862 he stayed in the Willingshausen painters' colony . Study trips also took him to Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands.

In 1864 Minjon married Pauline Münzenberger (* 1832), the daughter of the Düsseldorf art dealer, drawing teacher and real estate dealer Georg Münzenberger (1804–1870) and sister of the priest Ernst Franz August Münzenberger . Minjon had four children with her.
