Joseph Nduhirubusa

Joseph Nduhirubusa (born April 24, 1938 in Kigarika , Burundi ; † July 16, 2012 in Ruyigi , Burundi) was a Burundian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Ruyigi .

Life

Joseph Nduhirubusa came after visiting the parish school of Rusengo in the minor seminary in Mugera one. He then studied philosophy and theology in the seminary in Burasira and Bujumbura. He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Ruyigi on July 21, 1964 . In the following years he taught at the boys' college in Rusengo and Mugera. After doctoral studies from 1970 to 1975 in moral theology at the Alphonsian Academy in Rome there became a doctor of theology doctorate and was a professor of moral and pastoral theology at the seminary in Bujumbura .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Ruyigi on April 19, 1980. The Pope personally consecrated him bishop on May 4th of the same year; Co - consecrators were Cardinal Agnelo Rossi , Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , and Cardinal Joseph-Albert Malula , Archbishop of Kinshasa . His motto was “Tu renovabis faciem terrae” (You renew the face of the earth).

In 2002 Joseph Nduhirubusa was kidnapped by CNDD-FDD rebels and later handed over to church officials near Bujumbura.

Joseph Nduhirubusa visited various dioceses in Germany on the occasion of the Misereor fasting campaign in 2008. In 2008 he was the guest of honor for the 50th anniversary of the Catholic aid organization Misereor in the diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart . On the 7th International Day of Prayer in Amsterdam from May 6th to 8th, 2005 he was able to celebrate his silver jubilee as a priest.

Pope Benedict XVI accepted his resignation on October 30, 2010 for health reasons.
