Joseph Schilter

Joseph Schilter , also Josef Schilter (born May 18, 1871 in Stans , Canton Nidwalden , † May 21, 1956 in Zug , Canton Zug ), was a Swiss church painter and designer of leaded glass windows .

Life

Schilter studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , where he enrolled in painting on October 20, 1893. He also studied in Düsseldorf . After returning to Switzerland he settled down as a citizen in Steinen ( Canton Schwyz ) and worked as a church painter and designer of leaded glass windows. In 1921 he saved the Steinen Carnival wooden masks Talibasch and Välädi from burning by taking them from a table maker and selling them to the Swiss National Museum .
