Joseph Simon (born February 7, 1851 in Bechtheim , Grand Duchy of Hesse , † February 14, 1935 in Portland , Oregon ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ).

Simon immigrated to the United States with his Jewish parents. There they settled in Portland in 1857. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1872, and then practiced in Portland. From 1877 to 1880 he was a member of the city council. He was then from 1880 to 1898 Senator in the Senate of Oregon , of which he was also President.

Simon was a member of the Republican National Committee from 1892 to 1896 . On October 8, 1898, he was elected to the US Senate for his party to fill a vacant seat and remained a senator until March 3, 1903. From 1909 to 1911, Simon was Portland Mayor . Then he started practicing again. He died in Portland in 1935 and was buried in Beth Israel Cemetery .
