Joseph Madec

Joseph Théophile Louis Marie Madec (born March 15, 1923 in Ploërmel , Morbihan , France ; † February 5, 2013 in Vannes ) was Bishop of Fréjus-Toulon .

Life

Joseph Madec studied from 1945 to 1950 philosophy at the seminary of Vannes and theology at the Séminaire français de Rome and received on April 5, 1947 in the Lateran Basilica , the ordination . He completed a theology degree at the Pontifical Gregorian University and a Bible degree at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. He was secretary of the diocese of Vannes and chaplain of the diocese schools, later pastor in Lorient. In 1953 he became professor of dogmatic theology at Vannes' major seminary, its superior in 1965 and, from 1971, when the Breton seminaries were merged, superior in the interdiocesan seminary in Rennes. In 1976 the appointment was made by Pope Paul VI. the Vicar General of the Diocese of Vannes. He was also a chaplain at various levels in the religious unions and various lay movements. From 1980 to 1983 he was rector of the Saint-Louis des Français church in Rome.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Fréjus-Toulon on February 8, 1983 . He was ordained episcopal on April 10th of the same year by the Archbishop of Marseille , Roger Cardinal Etchegaray ; Co- consecrators were Pierre Boussard , Bishop of Vannes , and Gilles Barthe , Bishop Emeritus of Fréjus-Toulon. On May 16, 2000, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation due to reasons of age.
