Josh Langfeld (born July 17, 1977 in Coon Rapids , Minnesota ) is an American ice hockey striker who has been playing for the EC VSV in the Austrian ice hockey league since November 2010 .
Career
Josh Langfeld began his career in the AFJHL before moving to the United States Hockey League for the Lincoln Stars in 1996 . With 58 points in 38 games, the winger recommended for the National Hockey League and was finally selected in the third round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft at position 66 by the Ottawa Senators . For the next four years, however, the right-handed shooter played for the University of Michigan team , with whom he was able to win the 1998 NCAA championship and thus the most important title in college sports. Langfeld scored the decisive goal in the final and was elected to the NCAA All-Tournament Team.
In 2001, the Canadian moved to the Grand Rapids Griffins , which were then the Ottawa Senators' farm team and played in the AHL . The attacker had a solid season and was even allowed on the ice for a game in the NHL. In the 2002/03 and 2003/04 seasons Langfeld got more missions in the NHL, but could not prevail and therefore continued to play in the AHL, this time with the Binghamton Senators , the new cooperation partner of the Senators.
2004/05 was his best season in the AHL, but the striker's contract with the Senators was not renewed and he moved to the San Jose Sharks , for whom he was used 39 times. During the season, the Canadian was given to the Boston Bruins , but they did not renew his contract after the season. In the summer of 2006, Josh Langfeld received a contract with the Detroit Red Wings , but he did not make it into the NHL roster initially and began the 2006/07 season with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL, which now served as the Red Wings farm team . Due to an injury problem at the Red Wings, the attacker was often called up in the NHL squad during the season and so came to 33 missions.
After the season, Langfeld's contract in Detroit was not extended again and he moved to the Nashville Predators , who sent him to their farm team, the Milwaukee Admirals , in the AHL. After the Canadian did not receive a new contract in the NHL at the end of the 2007/08 season , he moved to Germany to the Frankfurt Lions . At the Lions Langfeld became the top scorer with 21 goals and also provided 16 assists.
In the summer of 2010, after the Lions went bankrupt, Langfeld was initially without a club. In early September he was committed by HC Plzeň from the Extraliga , where he could not convince. In November he then completed a one-week tryout at the EC VSV in the Austrian league and was then put under contract until the end of the season.
