Josse Maria Konstantin Goossens (born October 22, 1876 in Aachen , † October 25, 1929 in Regensburg ) was a German painter .

Life

Josse Goossens was the son of the Aachen factory owner Nicolas Constantin Goossens and his wife Maria Magdalena Elise Bissot and brother or cousin of the sculptor and ceramist Hermine Goossens . As a child he received painting lessons from the Aachen painter Peter Bücken and subsequently studied in the 1890s at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Arthur Kampf , Eduard von Gebhardt and Claus Meyer, among others . He initially created works in the field of history painting . From around 1905 he found a more impressionistic style. In 1910 he moved to Munich , where he continued to live and work. During the First World War he designed 16 artistic field postcards for Bahlsen . In 1925 he received a professorship at the Munich Art Academy . He also created larger paintings for public buildings, for example in the auditorium of the grammar school in Moers , in the town hall in Bergisch Gladbach and in the district building in Tondern . Goossen's paintings were bought by the Kaiser Friedrich Museum in Magdeburg , the Suermondt Ludwig Museum in Aachen and the Neue Pinakothek in Munich , among others . He was an extraordinary member of the Royal Art Academy in Düsseldorf. He mainly painted everyday scenes, such as folk festivals ( Am Schützenstand ) but also individuals ( in yellow jackets , lady on white bench ) and groups ( promenade ).
