Jovan Kovačević ( Serbian - Cyrillic Јован Ковачевић , born September 14, 1970 in Vrbas ) is a Serbian handball trainer and former handball player who was mostly used on the back center .

Career

The 1.94 m tall Jovan Kovačević played in his homeland for RK Partizan Belgrade and RK Vrbas. In the Spanish league ASOBAL he ran for Bidasoa Irún and CB Cangas . With Irún he reached the round of 16 in the 1996/97 European Cup Winners' Cup . In 1999 he moved to the German second division club VfL Hameln , with whom he was promoted to the Bundesliga in 2000 . There he threw 156 and 172 goals. After relegation in 2002 he went to Switzerland to the Grasshopper Club Zurich , with whom he reached the quarter-finals of the EHF Challenge Cup 2002/03. From 2003 to the end of his career in 2007 he played for SC Torggler Group Meran in Italy, with whom he won the 2004 cup and 2005 champion. Internationally, he made it to the third round of the 2003/04 EHF Cup , the second round of the 2004/05 European Cup Winners 'Cup, the group stage of the 2005/06 EHF Champions League and the round of 16 in the 2005/06 Cup Winners' Cup.

With the Yugoslav national team Jovan Kovačević won the bronze medal at the 1996 European Championships in Spain. Two years later it was enough for fifth place at the European Championships in Italy. He played a total of 90 international matches .
