Jovibarba (literally "Jupiter beard ", also Donarsbart or fringed houseleek ) is a two-species section of houseleek ( Sempervivum ), which apart from its flower morphology differsonly slightly from the Sempervivum section.
description
The bell-shaped flowers are usually six-fold and only rarely seven-fold. Their yellow, light yellow to whitish, upright petals are slightly fringed at the edges. The stamens are yellowish to white.
The base chromosome number is x = 19.
Systematics and distribution
In Europe, the species of the Jovibarba section are common in the mountainous regions of Central and Southeastern Europe. In Russia , the distribution area extends from the northwest to central Russia.
The Jovibarba section was set up in 1828 by Augustin-Pyrame de Candolle . The classification of the taxa was subject to constant changes, which resulted in some homotypical synonyms.
The Jovibarba section consists of the following species and subspecies:

- Sempervivum globiferum L. subsp. globiferum ("Sprouting Fransenhauswurz" or "Sprouting Donarsbart")
- Sempervivum globiferum subsp. hirtum ( L. ) 't Hart & B.Bleij ("Kurzhaar-Fransenhauswurz")

Sempervivum × nixonii Zonneveld is an artificial hybrid between Sempervivum globiferum and Sempervivum heuffelii .
In 1852, Philipp Maximilian Opiz raised the section to the rank of a genus, which, however, is rejected by many editors today due to the minor deviations in the flower morphology and the phytochemical similarities. Nevertheless, there is also the assessment that Jovibarba should be viewed as an independent genus, and the classification is still controversial in publications.
For genus hybrids from Sempervivum and Jovibarba , Gordon Douglas Rowley proposed the designation × Jovivum in 1980 . With the entry of the genus Jovibarba into the genus Sempervivum , however, this is only a synonym within the genus Sempervivum . Such hybrids could be created artificially and, of course, rarely occur. Hybridization between Sempervivum heuffelii and Sempervivum marmoreum has only been reported once . Such hybrids are unlikely to be able to last long in nature if they do arise. An artificially created hybrid between Sempervivum globiferum subsp. hirtum and Sempervivum montanum , which have a low percentage of fertile pollen.
