Sempervivum globiferum even Ordinary Frans Hauswurz called, is a plant of the genus Sempervivum and the Section Jovibarba in the family Crassulaceae (Crassulaceae) in the order saxifrage-like (Saxifragales).

description

Sempervivum globiferum reaches a height of 8 to 35 cm in bloom. The diameter of the rosettes of the common fringed houseleek is 0.5 to - in exceptional cases - 7 cm. The rosettes are usually greenish to pale yellow-green and the rosette leaves at their tips or outside are usually more or less red to red-brown in color. Sometimes they are - as with the subspecies Allionis fringed houseleek - hairy and downy. Their daughter rosettes arise spherically on short, thread-like stolons on the mother rosette, often on the middle axillae, they loosen easily and then form daughter rosettes.

Sempervivum globiferum has tubular, bell-shaped flowers that are whitish-yellow to cloudy pale yellow in color. They usually have six, rarely five or seven petals . The petals are strongly keeled and their edges are fringed.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 38.

Systematics and distribution

Sempervivum globiferum is widespread in low mountain ranges north and east of the Alps, in the Southwest Alps , the Eastern Alps and in Eastern Europe.

The first description was in 1753 by Carl von Linné in Species Plantarum . Synonyms are Jovibarba globifera (L.) J. Parn. and Sempervivum soboliferum Sims .

The following subspecies are distinguished:

  • Sempervivum globiferum subsp. allionii ( Jord. & Fourr. ) 't Hart & B.Bleij ("Allionis Fransenhauswurz"):
Southwest Alps , primary rock zones ( Sea Alps , Gran Paradiso area)
  • Sempervivum globiferum subsp. arenarium ( WDJKoch ) 't Hart & B.Bleij (Syn .: Jovibarba arenaria (WDJ Koch) Opiz ) ("dwarf fringed houseleek" or "sand fringed houseleek"):
    Eastern Alps
  • Sempervivum globiferum subsp. glabrescens ( Sabr. ) M.Werner ("balding fringed house root"): areas
east and northeast of the Alps between the Gulsen (Eastern Alps) and the Eastern Carpathians .
  • Sempervivum globiferum L. subsp. globiferum ("Sprossende Fransenhauswurz" or "Sprossender Donarsbart"):
in lower areas north ( Black Forest , Swabian Alb , Sudetes ) and northeast of the Alps ( Czech Republic , Poland , probably radiating further to the northeast).
  • Sempervivum globiferum subsp. hirtum ( L. ) 't Hart & B.Bleij ("Kurzhaar-Fransenhauswurz"):
foothills of the Northern and Eastern Limestone Alps , Eastern Alps , Carpathians .
  • Sempervivum globiferum subsp. lagarinianum ( L.Gallo ) R.Stephenson :
    Val Lagarina , endemic .
  • Sempervivum globiferum subsp. preissianum ( Domin ) M.Werner ("Tatra fringed house root"):
    Tatra , endemic.

The subspecies are partly adapted to different substrates, so Allionis fringed houseleek, the dwarf or sand fringed houseleek exclusively and the Tatra fringed houseleek are mostly bound to acidic substrate, while the short-haired fringed houseleek is almost always found on lime. The bald houseleek settles on lime, but also z. B. on porphyry , even serpentinite rock. The fringed houseleek is also not strictly bound to a specific soil environment. The fringed houseleek often occurs in rock gravel and rock band societies. From a plant- sociological perspective, Oberdorfer et al. it - which applies to some of its taxa - as the character species of Sempervivetum soboliferae from the Alysso-Sedion association . The Alysso Sedion , according to Oberdorfer et al. a “pioneer society on calcareous, mostly flat rocky areas and outcrops”, which in the case of some taxa of Sempervivum globiferum is characterized by the two sedum species Sedum acre and Sedum sexangulare . Some taxa are also found in plant communities of the Cytiso-Pinion association , i.e. in boreal- subcontinental pine steppe forests .

Mix-ups

Between 1778 and 2005, other taxa of Sempervivum were also erroneously designated as Sempervivum globiferum , for example Sempervivum wulfenii and Sempervivum ruthenicum in earlier times . Up to the present day, fluffy, hairy house lice from the Caucasus, Transcaucasus and today's Turkey were incorrectly named that way.

use

Of this species, the subspecies and various locality forms, as well as color selections and crossings with Sempervivum heuffelii ( Sempervivum × nixonii ) are cultivated by lovers .
