Juan Manuel Iturbe Arévalos (born June 4, 1993 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine soccer player of Paraguayan origin. As a midfielder and striker alike, he is under contract with AS Roma in Serie A. He is currently on loan for Club Tijuana .

Career

In the club

Juan Manuel Iturbe was born in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, but his parents Juan del Carmen Iturbe and Miriam Mabel Arévalos are Paraguayans, so the son has both nationalities. Iturbe competed for youth teams in both countries, but recently announced that the Paraguay chapter was over for him. In his youth, Iturbe played at Club Universal Encarnación and for a year at Club Sportivo Trinidense , before moving to Club Cerro Porteño in 2007. There he got on June 28, 2009 when he played against local rivals from the capital Asunción, Club Libertad, when he was just 16, his first league appearance.

Only 17 years old, he didn't have a professional contract with Cerro Porteño that summer. He therefore signed an agreement with Quilmes AC in the province of Buenos Aires , which allowed him to train there and to tie himself to FC Porto in January for the following season. Following an agreement to move to Porto, he returned to Cerro Porteño in February, where he stayed until his 18th birthday in June 2011. In his first game in the Copa Libertadores , "wonderkind" Iturbe scored two goals shortly afterwards in a 5-2 win against the Chilean representative CSD Colo-Colo .

On July 16, 2014, Iturbe, who had just moved from Porto to Hellas Verona 16 days earlier on the first of the month - after a previous loan - for 15 million euros, moved to AS Roma for around 22 million euros .

He was loaned to AFC Bournemouth from January 1, 2016 until the summer of 2016 . After five appearances in the first half of the 2016/17 season for the Roma, he was awarded again in January 2017. This time within Italy to Turin FC . In August 2017, Iturbe switched to the Mexican league at Club Tijuana on loan until summer 2018 .

In the national team

Iturbe began his national team career in Paraguay. He went through the U-17 and the U-20 national team . At the age of only 16, he played a friendship meeting between Chile and Paraguay on November 4, 2009 on the occasion of a stadium inauguration in Concepción . Since this was not an official game, Iturbe can still be nominated for Argentina . At the U-20 South American Football Championship 2011, Iturbe played for the Argentinian U-20s and scored three goals.
