Nicolás Freire , full name Nicolás Omar Freire , (born February 18, 1994 in Santa Lucía (Corrientes) ) is an Argentine football player . He is used in the position of a central defender , alternatively he plays as a left defender. His strong foot is the left one.

Nicolás Freire comes from the junior division of the Argentinos Juniors . Here he made the leap into the professional squad in 2013. Freire played his first game in the Primera División (Argentina) on March 18, 2013. In the away game against Boca Juniors , he was in the starting line-up. Only a year later in the 2013/14 season was Freire able to achieve his first league goal. In the away game against Rosario Central on May 18, 2014, he scored the connecting goal in 87 minutes to make it 3-2.

In August 2017 Freire moved to the Netherlands . The PEC Zwolle used a business model on a loan basis. Freire was officially the second division CA Torque from Uruguay committed. Freire immediately awarded this to PEC for two years. Freire made his debut in the Eredivisie in the 2017/18 season on matchday six. Away it was against VVV-Venlo . In the game Freire was in the starting line-up. During the season 17 more league games and three in the KNVB Cup followed. He managed a goal in the league against SC Heerenveen . On November 25th, the 13th matchday, PEC traveled to the away game. In the game, Freire met in the 43rd minute to equalize 1: 1 (final score 1: 2 for PEC).

At the end of the season, Freire left PEC again. He was loaned out again. Freire came to Brazil to Palmeiras São Paulo . The contract was given a term of one year. In the 2018 season , in which Palmeiras was to win his tenth championship title in the Série A , Freire was only reserve player 15 times, but did not make any appearances. At the end of the season, this contract was also terminated prematurely.

His next stop was the LDU Quito . The club loaned him out for half a year. Freire played his first game for Quito in the league . On February 9, 2019, the first matchday of the 2019 season, Quito met CD Olmedo at home . In the game he was in the starting line-up and scored the goal in the 90th minute to make it 3-1. At the end of the loan, he had seven championship games for Quito (two goals), six in the 2019 Copa Libertadores (one goal) and one in the cup (no goal).

For Freire, the journey continued to Mexico . He moved permanently to UNAM Pumas , with whom he signed a three-year contract. With the club he entered the top division of Mexico. Here he also played his first competitive game for Pumas on July 28, 2019. Freire played the home game against Club Necaxa in the starting line-up. In the eighth round of the Copa México 2019, he scored the first goal for the Pumas. In the game at Atlético San Luis he scored the goal in the 53rd minute to make it 4-0. Freire also scored a goal in the league in 2019. On October 29, in the home game against Atlas Guadalajara , he scored in the 79th minute for a 3-1 lead (final score -5-1).
