Juan José Muñante

Juan José Muñante (born June 12, 1948 in Pisco , † April 23, 2019 in Miami ) was a Peruvian football player in the position of a striker . In his native Peru he was nicknamed El Jet , during his long stay in Mexico he was nicknamed La Cobra .

career

Muñante began his career in 1967 with the Sport Boys in Callao and two years later moved to the capital city club Universitario de Deportes , where he was under contract until 1973. With La U he was Peruvian football champion in 1969 and 1971 and reached the finals of the Copa Libertadores in 1972 , which were lost to the Argentine representative Independiente .

In 1973 he moved to the Mexican league , where he was initially under contract with Atlético Español for two years and then played five years for the UNAM Pumas , with whom he won the Mexican football championship in 1977. After another stint at CD Tampico , Muñante returned to Peru, where he ended his active career in 1983 with his first club, Sport Boys.

National team

Between July 28, 1967 and June 21, 1978 "El Jet" played a total of 48 international appearances for the Peruvian national team , in which he scored six goals.

At the end of his international career, Muñante was part of the Peruvian World Cup squad in 1978 and played in all of Peru's games.
