Juan Romay , full name Juan Manuel Romay , (born 1925 in Mar del Plata , † December 17, 2009 ) was an Argentine football player and coach.

Career

Player career

Romay, called "el Mazorquero", is the grandfather of the football player Emiliano Romay . He was used in the position of center forward and was from 1944 to 1947 in the squad of the Argentine first division club CA Lanús , from whose youth department he came. On July 30, 1944 he made his debut there in a 1-1 draw against CA Banfield . He scored his first goal for the club on August 27 of that year when he scored in the encounter with Independiente. In 1946 and 1947 he scored 16 and 13 goals for Lanús in 18 and 23 league games, respectively. In total, he came to 45 goals in 80 league appearances. This was followed by an engagement at CA Independiente from 1948 to 1951 . In 1948 he won the Argentine Championship with the club . For the club he scored 36 times in 61 appearances. He then played from 1952 to 1959 in the Primera División for Club Atlético Peñarol . In the 1954 season he was there with twelve goals scored top scorer . From 1961 he was subclass active at Independiente de Mar del Plata . There he won the championship that year and was runner-up the following year. In 1963 he ended his active career with this club.

Coaching

After retiring, he worked as a coach. He supervised Independiente de Mar del Plata and at least in January 1967 the Marplatensian selection. He died at the age of 84.
