Turji Remety (Ukrainian Тур'ї Ремети ; Russian Турьи Ремети / Turji Remeti , Slovak Turjí Remety or older Turjanský Remety , Hungarian Turjaremete ) is a place in Perechyn district in the Zakarpattia Oblast in western Ukraine .
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1451 and is located in the Turja valley in the middle of the Carpathian Mountains.
Until 1919 the place belonged to the Empire Austria-Hungary or Hungary , afterwards as part of the Carpathian-Ukraine to Czechoslovakia . With the annexation he came back to Hungary in 1939–1945, from 1945 the place has been part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic and since 1991 part of Ukraine.
From 1971 to 1993 the place had the status of an urban-type settlement , but this was revoked on May 31, 1993.
In the spring, frogs are caught here for two weeks, a tradition that goes back to fled Bonapartists and their preference for frog legs. Nowadays, restaurants and buyers from Slovakia, among others, are supplied with this.
