Juan Trull gained his first international experience at the Junior European Championships in 1991 in Thessaloniki , where he was disqualified in the preliminary run with the Spanish 4 x 400 meter relay. The following year he took part in the 200-meter run at the Junior World Championships in Seoul and made it to the semifinals, in which he was eliminated with 21.56 s. In 1998 he qualified over this distance for the European Indoor Championships in Valencia and retired there with 21.52 s in the first round. In the summer he won the bronze medal behind the teams from the United Kingdom and Poland at the European Championships in Budapest with the Spanish relay in 3: 02.47 min. In 1999 he was able to qualify over 400 meters for the World Indoor Championships in Maebashi and got there to the semi-finals, in which he was eliminated with 46.88 s and could not qualify for the final with the relay. In the summer he took part with the relay at the World Championships in Seville , but retired there with 3: 02.85 minutes in the lead. In the following year also the first round in 48.15 s at the European Indoor Championships in Ghent over 400 meters.
