Jules-Joseph Moury
Jules-Joseph Moury SMA (born October 11, 1873 in Agnat , France , † March 29, 1935 ) was the first Vicar Apostolic of Ivory Coast .
Life
Born in France, Moury joined the Society of Africa Missions and was ordained a priest on May 30, 1896 . In 1899 he was sent to the Ivory Coast and in 1905 was involved in founding the mission in Abidjan.
Pope Pius X appointed him on January 18, 1910 Apostolic Prefect of the Ivory Coast. With the elevation of the Apostolic Prefecture to the Apostolic Vicariate, Moury became Apostolic Vicar and Titular Bishop of Ariassus on November 17, 1911 . The episcopal consecration donated to him on June 6, 1912 Louis-Jean Dechelette , auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Lyon . Co-consecrators were Paul Pellet , Superior General of the Society of Africa Missions, and François Steinmetz , Vicar Apostolic of Dahomey . Jules-Joseph Moury returned to France in 1934 for health reasons and died in March 1935.
