Paul Pellet SMA (born November 14, 1859 in Sainte-Anne-sur-Gervonde , † March 11, 1914 in Lyon ) was a French religious. From 1907 to 1914 he was Superior General of the Society of Africa Missions.

Life

Paul Pellet enrolled in the seminary of the diocese of Grenoble in 1874 , joined the Society of Africa Missions in 1880 and was ordained a priest on May 19, 1883 . After initially staying in Cork , Ireland to improve his English, he went to what is today Nigeria in 1883 to work in the Vicariate Apostolic of Costa di Benin . There he became vicar general in 1891 .

Pope Leo XIII. appointed the pellet, which is very popular with the local population, on July 15, 1895, as Vicar Apostolic of Costa di Benin and Titular Bishop of Rhithymna . The episcopal ordination donated him on August 25 of that year, Pierre-Hector Couillié , Archbishop of Lyon . Co - consecrators were Jules-François Philippe , Coadjutor Bishop of Visakhapatnam , and Pierre-Marie Belmont , Bishop of Clermont . In 1901 he traveled to Mexico to raise money for missionary work and the Lagos seminary. In June 1902 Pellet resigned from office to become deputy of the long-time superior general of the Africa missionaries, Augustin Planque . After his death on August 21, 1907, Pellet's election as successor was confirmed by Pope Pius X on September 9 of the same year . After he was re-elected in 1913, he succumbed to the aftermath of an operation the following year. He was then buried in the church in his hometown of Sainte-Anne-sur-Gervonde.
