Julia Starp

Julia Starp (born November 17, 1982 in Dithmarschen ) is a German fashion designer who particularly stands out for her creation of works made from sustainably produced materials.

Life

Julia Starp was born in Dithmarschen, lives and works in Hamburg . She is a graduate of the fashion design course, she is an alumna of the JAK Academy .

She has been working as a freelance fashion designer since 2007 and has been designing prêt-à-porter and haute couture collections on a regular basis since 2009, in addition to individual orders.

The materials she uses are fairly traded , certified according to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and come from organic farming . The production takes place within Europe.

Awards

  • Julia Starp was awarded the Burda Young Desginer Prize in 2005.
  • In April 2011, she received the award for the "Ecotainment for ecological and fair trade fashion" category at the Success for Future Award in Munich .

Her collections have been presented to the press, specialist audiences and onlookers mainly on show floors and trade fairs of the Berlin Fashion Week since 2011 :

Since 2012, collections for the Ecorepublic brand of the Otto mail order company have been addressed to a wider audience. Wherever possible, material from the "Cotton Made in Africa Initiative" is used.

The Moonshape collection dressed the participants in the fifth season of Germany's Next Topmodel during their trip to New York in 2010 ; she worked with the second-placed participant in the sixth season, Rebecca Mir , for the Blickwinkel collection.

The "art couture" of the SHE collection , made from the painted canvases by the Berlin Wall artist Kiddy Citny , was a guest at the State Textile and Industry Museum in Augsburg's textile district in February 2013 .

Otto has been providing advertising posters that have not been used for upcycling since 2013 . In addition to being processed into haute couture in Blickwinkel , it is used to make bags. The unique items obtained in this way will be produced in small series in a workshop for disabled people from autumn 2013 .

Projects

Fairy Tale Heroes: The Storybook Project

In 2015 Julia Starp published a fairy tale book with classic fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen under the title "Fairy Tale Heroes: Das Märchenbuchprojekt" . Illustrated and freely interpreted by various photographers, models and celebrities ( Maike von Bremen , Uta Kargel , Chris Gebert , Wolfgang Bahro , Nina Bott , Natascha Ochsenknecht , Sarah Tkotsch and Charles Rettinghaus ).

The project was financed through crowdfunding . 100% of the profit from the sale of the book goes to the Association for Orphaned Parents and Siblings Hamburg eV
