Julian Hesse

Julian Hesse (* 1988 in Tegernsee ) is a German jazz musician ( trumpet , composition ).

Hesse, the son of a church musician, attended high school in Miesbach and, at the age of 15, won 1st place in the Bavarian Big Band competition with the big band of this high school . Thereupon, at the age of 16, he was accepted as a young student for jazz trumpet at the University of Music and Theater in Munich . He then studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the Bern University of the Arts . In 2012 he was able to deepen his studies in jazz performance and musicology for one year at City College in New York with a scholarship in the Fulbright program .

Hesse played between 2008 and 2012. in the quartet Bounce , with whom he won numerous awards, including the ZKB Jazz Prize in 2013, and the Suisse Diagonal Award 2014. Since 2014 he lives in Munich and is part of the big band of Monika Roscher and jazz noise big band , with which he recorded several albums. Other projects include the jazz / hiphop quartet Dr. Syros by Martin Sörös and the formation Fragments of a Tale (together with Dine Doneff and Matthieu Bordenave ). He has also worked with Aaron Parks , Django Bates , Joey DeFrancesco , Kyriakos Tapakis, Johannes Enders , Mike Holober , The Poets of Rhythm , Rudi Mahall , the Swiss Jazz Orchestra and Stephan Plecher . He can also be heard on albums by the Lucerne Jazz Orchestra , Michael Wertmüller and the Bamesreiter Schwartz Orchestra .
