Stephan Plecher

Stephan Plecher (born September 9, 1990 in Cham (Upper Palatinate) ) is a German jazz musician (piano).

Live and act

Plecher began taking classical piano lessons at the age of five. As a teenager he discovered jazz. After the first workshops and lessons with Hans-Jürgen "Specht" Bock and Rob Bargad , he finally joined the Bavarian Youth Jazz Orchestra in 2006 under the direction of Harald Rüschenbaum . In the same year he began as a young student with Martin Schrack at the Nuremberg University of Music. Between 2011 and 2015 he studied jazz piano at the Vienna Conservatory with Aaron Wonesch and Oliver Kent and between 2012 and 2013 jazz composition and arrangement with Andy Middleton . This was followed by a master's degree at the jazz campus in Basel.

Plecher founded his trio in 2013, with whom the album Jungfernballett (2016) was released with guest Bert Joris . He can be heard as a soloist on albums by Nina Reiter , Hila Puntur , Peter Primus Frosch, Phraim and the BamesreiterSchwartzOrchestra . He also accompanied Barbara Neuhauser ( Barbara Motive )) and played in the quartet of Marc Mezgolits. He also performed in a duo with Julian Hesse .

Prizes and awards

In 2004 and 2006, Plecher was awarded second and first prizes as a soloist in the Bavarian state competition Jugend jazzt ; his band Station 5 was awarded in 2008 by Jugend jazzt award winners. In 2012 he was awarded the Marianne Mendt Youth Promotion. In 2013 he and the Stephan Plecher Trio received a special jury prize at the Fidelio Competition of the Vienna Conservatory. In 2014 he won the 4th International Jazzhaus Piano Competition in Freiburg (Breisgau) and was awarded the main prize at the Generations Masterclasses in Frauenfeld.
