Life

Juliane was the second daughter and fourth child of Landgrave Karl von Hessen-Kassel and his wife Louise, a daughter of King Friedrich V of Denmark . Her older sister Marie later became Queen of Denmark through her marriage to Crown Prince Friedrich .

In 1810, as the successor to Sophia Magdalena von Qualen, she became head of the aristocratic Itzehoe monastery, which had been a Protestant women's monastery for the Schleswig-Holstein knighthood since the Reformation .

She resided in the Prinzesshof , where her uncle, Landgrave Wilhelm I , stayed for a while during his exile in the Napoleonic Wars.

After her death, her niece Princess Luise zu Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg , the daughter of her youngest sister Luise Karoline von Hessen-Kassel , succeeded her.

Monuments
